- St. Louis Park Crime Prevention Board member (2017-2023) The St. Louis Park Crime Prevention Fund is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation that supports various community outreach programs, including neighborhood watch, National Night Out, Children First, Cops Connect with Kids Program, summer youth safety camp, and Citizens' Police Academy. The organization also provides a crime tip line that offers cash rewards for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of people who commit crimes. As a board member, Astein has been actively involved in promoting safety and crime prevention in the St. Louis Park community.
- Perspectives Board of Directors (2019-2023) Founded in 1976, Perspectives, Inc. was an award-winning human service program that addressed pressing societal issues such as homelessness, poverty, addiction, mental illness, poor nutrition, and lack of access to services. The organization's specific target population was mothers and their children, and at one point, it was the largest therapeutic supportive housing program for women and children in Minnesota. As a board member, Astein contributed to the organization's mission of providing extensive services, including recovery and mental health programs, job readiness, and parenting education.
- Wallin Education Partners Trustee (2020-2023) Wallin Education Partners provides financial aid, advising, and access to scholars in need, making college graduation accessible for students with financial need for over three decades. As a trustee and member of the governance committee, Astein has been actively involved in ensuring that the organization continues to provide the necessary support for students to achieve their educational goals.
